The basis for the school’s curriculum is the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) curriculum and syllabus material. The students are being guided towards sitting the Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP), Cambridge Checkpoint, International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Advance Subsidiary/Advance Level Examinations and therefore it is logical and appropriate that the British-Cambridge Curriculum and syllabus material is guiding much of the academic activity at the school. To that end, we have applied for full-centre status with our own individual Cambridge International Examinations Centre number. Students completing their CIPP and IGCSE Examinations may continue to ‘A’ Levels, also at Hope International School. We at Hope International School, The Bellezza Permata Hijau, South Jakarta, have the greatest respect for the University of Cambridge with its over 800 year history as a university and its international education program which has been running for over 150 years. We wish to acknowledge the incredible, history-changing contribution that magnificent university has played in developing education quality throughout the entire world over almost a millennium. That is why we aspire to become a fully registered with UCLES (the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate) centre in our own right. Our school curriculum is the core of the teaching and learning that happens in the school. It comprehensively provides aims (intended outcomes) and goals (doable/achievable tasks), as well as specialized teaching and learning strategies which are inquiry-based in their focus and drawn from the most up-to-date university research facilities from around the world. Each teacher uses a standard, “New Teacher’s Planning Book” which provides detailed support for teachers and students to realize their learning aims and goals. The planning book is also used to assist teachers to keep a record of what they have taught, when they taught it and how they taught it with follow up assessment needs to be carried out. Such a book also instills teachers, parents and students with confidence as they all know curriculum material is organized and being taught in a systematic way. The school does, however, exercise a high degree of intellectual freedom in providing its courses of study and fundamentally important to this are the resources (such as materials, books and the internet) that are provided to implement the curriculum and also the highly-qualified, professional teachers who must analyze, interpret and deliver the curriculum targets. The school’s curriculum does, therefore, provide a most highly detailed and comprehensive guide to learning from one of the best known and most professional institutes of learning in the world – the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Through consultations with other professional educators in Indonesia, Singapore and other countries, Hope International School will maintain curriculum development and maximize the learning potential delivered to the students. Importantly, the Cambridge curriculum content is delivered using inquiry-based learning techniques. |
